Cat constantly licking me

Hi there,
Does anyone know why my young male cat constantly licks us. Love him to bits and it's not a problem but could it be psychological? He was abandoned young and had a hard start in life.

Not sure if its psychological or not some cats are just like that I guess you could always try train him out of it, tap him or move him away when he does it. I have a girl cat that paws me and burries her head in my dressing gown whenever I have it on then procceds to dribble everywhere :o lol

My cat used to do that constantly as a kitten. We couldn't pet him without him twisting his head to lick. I did look it up at the time and I can't remember for the life of me what it all said but it's common and nothing to worry about it, that much I do know :p

I think it's a bonding thing.... cats groom each other to establish and maintain relationships, so I guess he thinks of you as one of the family! One of my young cats likes to lick, but not constantly - just a couple of licks when you stroke her, or she licks your eyelids to wake you up in the morning.

Rachel83: one of mine dribbles like a gushing tap when petted, I always put it down to her being hand-reared and her seeing me as her 'mum' as she doesn't do it with anyone else.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

One of our cats licks your hair if she sits behind you. One of the others sucks the blanket/fleece on the children's bed and rolls around purring.

I've got a dribbler, too - it's quite disgusting :) I don't mind really, she also used to suck my hair when she was a tiny kitten.

TrulyMadly, I think your cat is madly in love with you and is simply reinforcing the bond he has with you. Aww so sweet! One of mine likes to lick my nose - I could do without the dog breath though.

I had a cat that used to suck my hair and dribble, I read somewhere that this was a sign it had been taken from it's mother too soon. He never grew out of this and lived until he was 13.

Thanks to all of you for your comments.

I have started to pretend to lick him back using my nose and making licking sounds. (Yes I know I'm round the bend) but I think it's keeping him on his toes!:rotfl:
