Hi all
I switch from E.ON to EDF energy a little while ago, when i switched i owed £188 due to being on the wrong tariff for goodness knows how long EON's fault of course for not notifying me......so i switched EDF said they would take on the debt.
To cut a long story short i have today recieved a letter with intention of court action from a company called UDS, they are saying if i don't pay within 7 days a bankcrupcy petititon may be sought or bailifs will be round to seize personal property.......
what can i do, i dont have this money

Welcome to the forum.
It would be most unsual for E-ON to allow EDF to have the account(they can object) with a debt, and also unusual for EDF to 'pay off' £188 to E-ON and collect that money from you.
So I suggest there is some confusion.
It would appear that the £188 is your closing balance with E-ON.
Unfortunately the companies all seem to pass any debt very quickly to Debt Collecting aAgencies.(DCAs)
I suggest you ask for advice in the 'Debt free wannabe' forum as they are good at dealing with DCAs0 -
.so i switched EDF said they would take on the debt.
Are you sure they didn't offer to take you on despite the debt? As said, it's less likely that EDF would take another supplier's debt. If that had been the arrangement, you would have it in writing - EDF would have to put it in writing to cover themselves, surely.
Best thing to do is contact UDS and offer what you can afford and arrange to clear the balance - promise only what you can afford and stick to it. Draw up a Statement of Affairs showing your income and outgoings - get rid of anything that can go on a temporary basis (Sky, mobiles etc), cut everything down to minimum (shopping etc) and work out what you can afford.0 -
Hi Tinky33,
I agree with Cardew, it does appear that the £188 was your final bill from E.ON, if this has not been paid it will be passed to a DCA.
If you don't agree with this final balance due to the tariff you were billed on, I'd contact E.ON and discuss this with them.
When an agreement has been reached, you may be able to make a payment arrangement with E.ON to clear the balance, you may need to pay this to UDS, E.ON should help you sort this one.
Hope this helps.
