How do I share documents on a wireles network?

I live in shared accomodation and we have a wireless network. I have a laptop running Vista and a desktop running Windows XP that I'd like to be able to share documents over the network. However, I dont want other people on the network to have access to my documents!

Is there any way I can securely link the two and prevent anyone else on the netwrok having access??

My first thought was to password protect the folder, but XP seems to have a problem with this, although this link suggests a work around:

Asuming you already have user accounts set up on the desktop

Your probably going to need to disable "Simple File Sharing"- tools | folder options | view | advanced settings, from any explorer window

Then right click on the folder to be shared, enable sharing ( use sharing tab), then use security tab to give valid users access to that folder

When you try to access that folder across network you should be prompted for username/password

Sometimes firewall settings can stop the sharing happening too

if you have trouble with the actual sharing via windows you could try using hamachi if you want to access randomly, or dropbox if you dont mind having a cpy sync'd on 2 machines.
