My mother-in-law owns a property in Scotland, I'm a resident of Northern Ireland - we wish to transfer ownership of her property to me - can we do this without involving a solicitor? Can anyone help?

Its best to involve a solicitor as there maybe other implications. But it shouldnt cost too much if that is an issue.0

I agree: Involve a solicitor - get a few quotes.. Wouldn't want to find out 5 years later that you filled all those forms in thinking they were right but actually MiL still owned the house....
Good luck with your growing property empire! May I 'umbly suggest (assuming you own another property..) that you start researching the tax implications (mainly CGT - capital gains tax) of having a 2nd home.
I'd strongly suggest getting it valued (a couple of times) so that IF (please, please, please,...) the property prices go up and when-you-eventually sell there is a profit made by you you'll know what the profit is you will need to declare to the tax man.. ;-)
