Perhaps under the current ongoing collapse of the UK economy the minimum wage needs pruning a bit.

Cus that will help the tax credits top up bill.

Lets give people even less incentive to work
Hunger is quite a good incentive.

the civil service earn very low wages actually.

my partner worked for the HMRC in the tax office. he worked in central london, had been there for 16 years and was on 22k. he was a single dad with 3 kids. he was a tax collector, not assessor. i think that was an abysmal wage. (obviously the assessors earned more, but still...)

The assessors 'obviously' earned more. What's obvious about that?

just saying that he wasnt some kid on one of his first jobs, he was supporting a family on those wages in central london.

why did he do it, well he's changed jobs now, not earning much more though, but i suppose he did it because it was secure and it was all he knew. sometimes people stay in jobs because they havent got the confidence to go somewhere else, especially if they are supporting others, just in case its not as secure.

i think that the image of the civil service that they're all raking it in, in flashy suits and taking long lunches needs to be challenged, hence my comment

    All very true.
