DVLA Unlicensed vehicle fine
Lewis-Evans
Posts: 1 Newbie
Hello to all,
I have recently received a fine for £80 via Intercred from the DVLA for an unlicensed vehicle.
The vehicle in question was a motorcycle that was sold on eBay 2 years ago. I was in the process of moving address and my new home did not have a garage to store the bike hence the sale.
Bike sold in Feb 2007 all paperwork filled in etc, confirmation letter received from DVLA (via redirected royal mail service) and filed with my other vehicle documentation.
So, just after two years all the paperwork in relation to the bike was shredded (I figured that if I have heard nothing for two years them what's the point of keeping the docs) and quite literally two weeks later the fine arrives.
I contacted Intercred and was told the case handler would ring me back, one week later I was contacted and explained the situation. I was informed that all previous correspondence had been sent to my previous address, and because I had not responded the DVLA had issued a fine and as it had not been paid it was handed over to Intercred for pursual.
I told them that I had complied with my obligation and was therefore not going to pay the fine.
I rang the DVLA who were quite helpful, they stated that they had notification of change of keeper two years ago and directed me to send a fax to their 'Being contacted' department with all the information on it. I did this and await reply (eight days so far)
The reply letter should be sent to Intercred via me and they will investigate the matter.
What advice can anybody give me? has this happened to anybody else?
I know from experience that because I was not give a reasonable chance to pay the fine (I was not notified) that I can apply to a court and have the initial fine reissued. I would rather pay this than the £80. (thanks DVLA for losing information! and wrongly fining me
)
Its also frustrating that two other vehicles I own were re-registered under a change of address by me when I moved, so common sense would say...he's moved perhaps we should contact him at his new address...
It's just frustrating that government agencies cannot seem to do their job properly, and private companies like Intercred do not listen to reason and keep demanding money..... 'or I may get fined £1000' :j
Any help will be greatfully recieved
