HSBC shambles

After eventually receiving my card and pin and successfully making a balance transfer, I tried several times unsuccessfully to find out how to pay other than by Direct Debit, to no avail. Eventually I decided I may as well go down the DD path so duly filled in the form with my bank details, signed it and sent it back to them.

After reading posts about their unreliability regarding payments I decided to message them about it. What a surprise!! They have no record of my requesting to pay by DD, have not received a completed mandate, and have therefore not set up the payment on my bank account.

They sent a reply email from their 'stock' saying that if I want to set up a DD payment they will post me a form to complete.
I said that I didnt want to authorise another one until someone discovered what had happened to the first one so I requested their payment details to set up a standing order instead.

A different operator confirmed that no DD had been set up and asked for my bank details again in order to authorise it.
I sent the details in the msg reply, and asked them to re-confirm that they would not set it up twice in error.
AArrrrggghh......I received the same 'stock' letter again from yet another operator saying if I wanted to pay by DD they would send me a form in the post.

So, they have 'lost' the first mandate, which could be anywhere, and has my bank details and signature. They have been given the requested bank details again via their message service, which they have disregarded, and now they want to send me another form to fill in with my bank details and signature............. I think they've lost the plot. I'm not sending it again. What a !!!!-up

I received my card about two weeks ago, followed by my pin and online banking info.

They have yet to send a DD form...and after the stories I've been reading, I shan't be filling it in if they do!!

These 'top secret' details can be found on every your cheque ...

Regarding payments to your HSBC Mastercard account, sort code is 404246 and account number is 29004734. Reference is your 16-digit card number starting with 543460.
  • I had the same with them when I stoozed £6,000 off them last year. They failed to collect the DD and fined me £20.

They were so disorganised that when I phoned up for a rant they credited me the £20 back twice. To55ers!

Ref payments to HSBC - Does anyone know if you can pay over the phone with a debit card ? I prefer to do it this way as it means I can hold onto my money longer rather than arranging a DD 6 days prior to the due date.

I pay both my Amex Plat and Mint Plat on the due date by phone using a debit card which then takes 2 days to show up on the account, but is backdated to the day I made the call (the due date).

It's easier to ask the Q here than go round in circles on the HSBC automated phone system ;)

    Hi grumbler,
Yep, thats one of the numbers they gave me. Utter confusion in the branch, they gave me a paying in slip with the details on the back for my card no. Then they changed their mind and said they didnt know, so put me on the phone to India? He gave me 40-42-46 and 99009787. Branch didnt know why, so I waited for the statement to come.
Statement says the same as guy on phone (in tiny tiny writing on the back).
Email from them.......finally....confirmed 40-42-46 and 99009787 even though the paying in slip with the start of my card no. is saying different.
Anyway, have paid it to the 9900...etc and keeping me fingers crossed...lol

exel, I was told on the phone I could only use the phone payment or internet payment facility if I had a current account with HSBC...which I dont, so I just made an electronic payment from my bank.

This is what I do then, you can pay what you want, when you want and as often as you want :)

Just login to internet banking and choose pay a bill or similar.

Not sure if this happens with most and or all internet banking but, you fill in the details once and it keeps it their in a drop-down list to choose in future and you just type an amount to pay :)

I applied for an HSBC credit card, and filled out all the paperwork as requested, and sent wage slip and utility bill etc, then HSBC wrote back requesting I send them the same paperwork that I already sent.

I told them I have already sent the items requested and signed their paperwork, and now I could not be bothered with it, that was a month ago.

I had the same aggravation with the Texaco card, which I also could no longer be bothered with.

Why is it so difficult now to get a credit card? I have a good salary and credit rating, so surely they can just do a credit check on me. I already own several credit cards, and none of these are maxed out, so what's their problem.

The Halifax are coming to my business with an offer on their credit card for 12 months interest free on balance transfers, so I will wait for that :D
