Problems getting broadband

Hi,
I've just moved house and have signed up to sky broadband. It was connected yesterday but has only worked for about 3 minutes and then cut off again. I've spoken to Sky and eventually they have decided that we are too far from the exchange to receive their broadband service! They've reduced my package down to the free of charge one until I decide what to do.
Whats frustrating is that my Netbook can find half a dozen wireless networks in the area and our neighbour has a bt homehub. I've checked with bt and it said this:
"Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that it is VERY UNLIKELY you will be able to receive fixed 512Kbps or 256Kbps broadband service due to the very long length of your telephone line. However, your order will be accepted if you still wish to order. An engineer may need to visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 250Kbps or greater.
Your exchange is planned to have ADSL2+ by 31st March 2009. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a potential ADSL2+ broadband line rate of 250Kbps or greater.
The actual stable ADSL line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This rate may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.
If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.
Thank you for your interest."
I've checked our phone number with several broadband providers and they mostly say that either they cannot provide me at all or it will be very slow (dial up speeds). Two of them however said that they will connect at 3.5megs (o2 and be) is this just a guess or do you think they can provide me with a faster broadband service? Am I right in thinking they use ADSL2 and that this is why they will be faster for me.
Any suggestions for what we can do now would be gratefully received. I really don't want to have to resort to Mobile broadband if I don't have too.
Thanks
