Self employed accounts

Does anyone know how much detail the CSA are supposed to go into when investigating a self employed NRP's accounts?
Do they just accept a figure that the NRP may give them or do they always check with HMRC and go into detail with the accounts?
I read somewhere that he cannot claim to have lived on nothing and as a full time working person has to claim he has at least earned the minimum wage?
Surely if you're self employed you can "choose" to earn whatever you like?

Various ways to say how you have lived.
They have to prove you are telling lies.0 -
Demand they go direct to HMRC.
Unfortunately they can only go by what is submitted in self assessment form to HMRC. It is up to you to prove the accounts are cooked!0 -
If they go direct will they just get a profit figure from the inland revenue or actually delve much deeper. I understand that what Inland revenue consider to be allowable is different to what CSA say is allowable. Do they ask for all the details of the accounts or do they just take the net profit figure as gospel?0

My hubby is SE, he had to get copy of his assessment from HMRC and send in his accounts.0

Were you Self-employed when the CSA case was opened?0 -
If the case was opened a week or so ago, it might be an idea to let the CSA know all the info you have. Most self-employed people can use accountants to deflate what they actually earn. When a payment is not through a DEO it is pretty difficult to pin down an individual.
The CSA are snowed under at the moment due to a big purge on longstanding arrears, so you might find your case is delayed a little.
They can delve much deeper, but its normally over a length of time. They have various means of checking, but it does take time. It normally comes after refusal by the NRP to co-operate.0 -
I'm not expecting anything in a hurry and don't expect a "fair" amount, but anything would be better than the nothing I get now - even £5 a week. My biggest fear is that he will get a nil assesment despite having a luxurious lifestyle and I won't be able to prove it. :-(0

I've not had a penny from my ex for 6 years. The relationship is actually very amicable but I suspect only because I've not pushed for money, only ever politely asked and always been fobbed off, accepted last minute contact let downs for our son etc. etc.
I asked him 2 months ago to just provide £10 a week for our son for his school bus fare - he spends that every day on cigarettes.
I very much want to stay amicable but other situations with his personal life have meant that our son doesn't want to go to his house anymore and I've tried so hard to be mediator.0
