selling shares

I have some shares that I would like to sell and on reading some of the threads I am a bit confused about the ex-div date now should I sell before this date or after.
My ex-div date is 1/03/2006 but I have to be on record on 3/03/2006 I think this to recieve divi's is the general view that shares go down in price after these are paid. Or could I get a good price and my divi buy selling between now and the 3rd?

I would appreciate your tips

Thanks

If all other factors that affect share price remain constant, the price will fall by the amount of the dividend on the ex-div date (i.e. tomorrow).
