Ford want to buy my car back, good or bad thing?
Options
Hi ya,
I bought my focus from the local ford dealer two years ago, they have just sent me a letter asking if i would be willing to sell my car back for them as they have a lot of people wanting this type of car? Is this just a ploy to get to me to buy another one of their cars or will they actually pay top price for it? It says your car has a higher than usual value to us?
Anyone had any experience of this? x

Your car will have a higher value to the dealer... but not 'top dollar' it means they are willing to pay above the trade in value - there is a shortage of 1-3 year old mid sized cars. It is a cunning tactic by the dealer to a) increase the sale of a new car to you - and b) get your car cheaply.
Best advice would be to advetise and sell privately and then buy a new car - if thats what you want to do.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!
There are three types of people in the world, those who can add up and those who can't.0 -
I've had this in the past and it has been a ploy to get me to change my car, still worth asking them though as there are some cracking deals around so see what they will give you.
Are you considering changing your car anyway?Getting thrifty in my old age!:beer:0 -
We have baby number three on the way so are saving up (well trying) to get the money for a seven seater, my oh has his heart set on a volkswagen so we wouldn't buy a ford anyway. We know we cannot get credit so this wouldn't be an option, just thought if it is worth so much to them they might pay over the book price for it? x0

Sounds like just a sales ploy, but it's easy enough to check Parkers Guide or any of the many online guides to get an idea of the current market value of your car ( both Trade and Private sales ). Then you can at least make an informed decision based on what they're offering you.
Also, if you ARE thinking of selling anyway, bear in mind you'll get more selling it privately than by trading it in - the downside is the hassle of advertising it and waiting for someone to come along who actually wants to buy it. The simplicity is why many people opt to trade in their old car, but if you can afford to spend a few weeks dealing with enquiries etc. then you'll get more for it privately.0 -
Yeah, Toyota did this to me. They made an appointment for a few days hence and it gave me time to think about it. Definitely a ploy. they rang me
about an hour before i was due to go and i told them exactly what i thought about their little ploy. The Aygo i have is great, the service at on particular Dealership was abysmal for the whole of the 3 year perod.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

They're never going to pay 'top price' for it and then add on their £3000+ gross margin, so they'll either hope they can get it for around trade price or to convince you to buy a new car on which they have some margin on to bolster up the poor offer price.
If you had otherwise no plans to change the car, i wouldnt just so that your local ford dealer can make money off you.0 -
