    They don't all say this.

Your policy has this condition, and you accepted that condition when you took out the policy!

You are probably right - lesson learned, and at least it has only cost me £5 to find it out

(Unless something else comes up during the rest of the annual policy!!)

I am now waiting for them to get back to me after they put the wrong type of infection on the policy!!

And i wish they would send me a hard copy instead of a .pdf which is a pain to read and that you can't take with you on your holiday

(Someone recommended them to me saying they were good!)

Another scenario: If I had the infection and the Dr said you can go, but you will have to visit a Dr whilst you are out there, otherwise I advise you to cancel - would I have to pay the extra premium if I went, but pay no extra premium if I cancelled and get to invoke the cancellation?

Yes you would have to pay the extra premium, though this is too hypothetical. (Were you to get this advice and travelled, your visit to the doctor abroad would not be covered)

All your questions are covered by the policy. You should have read it when you took it out. You need to read it now so you don't make any costly mistakes abroad!

You should take your policy documents with you for reference (eg another nail might get infected). Print off the pdf.

I have printed off the main schedule (I have a copy in passport, the OH has a copy in her passport, and we have copies at home), but the other 3 pdf's they sent total 28 pages!!

BTW - I have just found another little part which states it more clearly then the guy was saying on the phone:

Annual Multi-trip policies: Section 1, Cancellation cover for each trip is effective from either the start date on the insurance schedule or the time and date at which each trip is booked (whichever is the later),

For all other sections, cover commences when
you leave your home or business (whichever is the later) to commence each trip

Hope other people read this and learn from my mistakes.

    Thanks for listening Quentin

I would also second the idea of taking the policy with you.
I print it our double sided and 2 pages per side (so 4 pages to one piece of A4).

I had an experience once when a ferry was delayed in France and I wanted to know what I was entitled it but it was a Sunday.
The emergency line don't cover that sort of query, so I had to ring round quite a lot at roaming rates.
It would have been a lot cheaper if I'd had the policy to read whilst I was waiting in a cafe and then I could have found out I wasn't entitled to anything for free instead of paying a tenner on the phone.

Especially difficult as it was a Sunday.

Its a good idea to forward a copy of the pdf to a hotmail account or similar so you can access it from any computer abroad if you lose your policy eg a theft.
