Music - Beat - generator?

Hi guys

can you save me a load of time searching - im looking for some software for genration of drum beats, loops, samples etc basically a music production/ generation piece of software.

can anybody suggest some, freeware, shareware, trials etc

I know my mate who's semi-pro uses a piece of software called Reason, problem is I think it's pretty pricey. He swears by it though.

Ejay is a bit simplistic. Magix Music Maker Deluxe 11 is cheap (£50 or less) and looks well featured. Magix also do Music Studio. It's good but a bit harder to get into. Flstudio (previously known as Fruity Loops) is about £90 in it's cheapest form and is probably the easist to use. Demo at http://www.flstudio.com/ It's widely used and well liked. I have version 5 which is excellant.

You could try Massiva which supports plug in instruments. It's shareware but I don't know if it's still being developed.
