Mobility Scooter Batteries

I have finally got myself a mobility scooter and have been quoted £170/190 for 2 x 40/75ah batteries. I just wondered if there was anywhere I could get them cheaper (not ebay)?

Possibly call around a few different dealers, most scooter dealers should be able to get suitable batteries for pretty much any scooter (the batteries aren't proprietary or anything), so one dealer might well be able to get a better price than another.

IIRC that sort of price sounds about right compared to when we've had to buy new batteries as they are fairly expensive items (most scooters seem to use sealed/gel batteries these days for safety reasons, which are more expensive and generally better/safer than the old lead acid ones*).

Was the scooter new or second hand?


*Which could/did leak if the scooter tipped over :eek:

It is second hand, it was a private sale. I haven't looked at the batteries yet so I don't know exactly what sort they are (too cold!) and I don't have the user manual either. The batteries are ok for now but I will need to get some new ones in the next few months. I rang the local car tyre/battery dealer and they don't sell them. I didn't know if they were the same as normal scooter ones. Never even though of it tipping over but it is something to think about..

OH bought new batteries for his Wispa mobility scooter last year from www.mdsbattery.co.uk. Think he paid around £51 for the pair required and these are working fine so far.

Thanks for this site my friend -- My scooter is due a new set of batteries and they stock them -- £82 for a pair which is cheapest I've found -- Now to get some and fill out the VAT exempy form they require -- Dave

Still came out at £170 + 4.99 postage but I could get the VAT back! I suppose it's a small price to pay to be able to get around.

This site gave the cheapest price for our Wispa batteries, but there are other sites you can compare with. Just 'google' for 'mobility scooter batteries'.

Hope you can find some at a good price.

Does anyone know where i can get some Shoprider Capri mobility scooter batteries from? I have found some sites, but they are quoting over £200 for the items
