My husband has been put on a 30 day redundancy consultation. He has been with his employers for over 8 years and was given a contract at the start of his employment. He was promoted to a manager role over two years ago with a substantial increase in salary and a car allowance. He was never given an amended contract for this role, so the only contract he has was for his original one. He was also told at inteview for the managers post that his notice period would need to be increased from 2 months to 3 months, which he agreed to. Is there anything that he can do about this now? He is not sure of the implications. Help!

It would likely be to his advantage if he now had a longer notice period. Simply put, if he is made redundant the company will have to allow him to work (or pay him out for) three further months rather than two.
Does he have this new notice period in writing? (even email) If it was verbal the company may try to wriggle out of their obligation. If in doubt get him to ask the company to lay out what the redundancy and notice package would be if he were made redundant - this is a standard question in consultation
The salary increase etc is contractual even if it is not in writing as they will have been paying him at the increased level for 2 years - it has become an implied term and condition of employment so you are ok there.Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0
