Shelf load 15kg enough to take books?

Ive brought a floating shelf for my kitchen to put my cookery books on it says it takes 15kg before i put it up can i check that this will be suitable?

You could weigh your cookbooks but thats about it. These are generally not designed to take a lot of weight and hence if you have a lot of books or heavy books then it might be worth going for a more conventional one.

15 kg is weight of a small suitcase !!
So a easy test, if you can hold all the books , at the same time , your shelf will be fine,

In most cases it not the shelf that will fail, its the fxing into the wall that will be the week point. If in doubt go for the best quality fixings for your wall type. One thing I would say is that depending on the length and construction of the shelf the load exerted on the middle of the shelf may cause bowing in the centre.

If you have enough cookery books to worry about 15kg then you must have some kitchen scales? Presumably you've already weighed your books to see they've come under 15kg before you asked this question??

The next thing to worry about is the fixings: you're probably fine if you're fixing into solid walls, but if you're fixing to plasterboard, you'll need some more advice.
