Built Under Double Oven - Legs or Housing?

Options
Hi

We're in the process of ordering a new kitchen. We currently have a single built-under electric oven, which slides into a housing unit.
We're looking to get a built-under double oven. I was surprised that the quote for the kitchen units didn't include a double oven housing - but i was told that you dont need them as the double oven comes on legs? so its like a freestanding unit, and the plinth just goes across the bottom of it.

I've never heard of this before, and last year a friend fitted a built-under double oven into a housing unit.

so who is right, and who is wrong?
I dont want to be in a situation whereby the kitchen fitting is held up as we have no housing for an oven.....

    oven fitting

I do know though you will have to fit a vent into the plinth.

    Hi,

Have a look at the specification from the oven manufacturer as there are different ways of fitting them according to the make.

Why would a double oven need a vent, but not a single oven?

the ones I've seen on display dont have them fitted...

Double built under ovens are bigger, seems logical to design them to stand on legs, similar to a built under dishwasher BUT check the maufacturer's recommendations first.

Also consider what is going either side of the oven and also at the back.

The oven may need a something to be screwed into for stability, again check the recommendations.

out of the 100s of built under ovens i have fitted there are only a few that have there own legs ( some hotpoint ones i seem to remember) 95% are fitted with brackets that should come with the oven. some can be fitted in an housing but it has to be a double oven housing, sometimes we get the single and have to adapt it. the brackets are some times fixed to the oven so can be missed.
there is no real need for a vent unless it states it in the instructions, just make sure the plinth is not tight up to the units, leave sufficient gap for the air to circulate.

Our range type cooker came with legs which make it stand about 4 inches off the ground but I wasn't too happy with a hole into which the food that always flys off the knife would congregate. As our kitchen is stainless steel and beech the choice was a beech plinth or a steel custom made plinth. Our local metal company did the honours for less than £50 and I think it looks great.
