    I think it is a good idea to get a credit card at the end of third year while they are begging you to take one (ie Natwest with me the other day) so that you can start to build up a credit rating. You don't have to use it very much and as always, never spend on it if you can't afford to pay it off!
  • If you have to have a credit card, make sure you get one with the lowest interest rate possible, no annual fees and with only enough of a credit limit for an emergency. You should avoid over spending as suggested by others here.

    you will struggle with today's stinginess with giving out credit cards. probably for the best anyway, try increasing your overdraft or get a student grant if money is tight.
