Freecycle is DEAD! (well, almost..)

Have tried posting both offers and wants on Weds eve, but not getting through for several hours-

moderator says there are probs with yahoo moving stuff around on the servers..?

yeah right- i wonder if they paid the tech dept, or even the last leccy bill!

anyhows, best hold off postig for a while, so the geeks can sort it out.:rotfl:

It must just be your moderators not putting anything through, it's been working OK here, so the site's fine.

I think Yahoo groups seem to be having problems generally, I've noticed more spam & hijacked accounts linked to the few groups I subscribe to, maybe they're just trying to get the security sorted out.

I've only been a member of my freecycle for about 3 months but I noticed that if I post anything it doesn't show for at least 6 hours, usually more. It's why I stopped posting offers really as this huge time delay meant that even after stuff was collected and gone I was getting email requests for it and it was all getting out of hand. It looked like emails were only ever posted in two batches per day.

Add to that the general problems with the amount of time Yahoo mail was down and it was easier for me to go back to charity shopping my items.

I think 6 hours is pretty normal, it has to wait till a moderator deals with it.

But, tho I do have a Yahoo mail a/c, I never use it when replying to offers etc, as it's so unreliable.

Our group is fine, mods always post if there has been a problem with listings or to warn if nobody is available at that particular time.

It's due to your moderator not bothering.

Freecycle is not that good anyway. What I notice is that people put loads of offers in (there's no way you know it's genuine), but these same people also put in lots of wants too. Why not use Ebid instead? Ebay with no fees.
  • My Freecycle came up trumps today for me. We offered a wendy house and it is gone subject to collection and I saw an Aiwa turntable on offer which I picked up this morning and which I am over the moon with. Think I might agree with previous poster though - our moderators seem really on the ball.
  • My local freecycle group sends new lists by e-mail every couple of hours. I get fed up of reading people who want expensive electronics for nothing tho.
    Nothing to declare ;)
  • We must remember that these groups are run by local people and is time dependant, they have to approve all posts and sort out any issues. Our local freecycle group (portsmouth) is brilliant and the people so far have been great to deal with. Have recommended it to everyone I know!

I completely agree with that. I'm sick of seeing people post laptop requests to the Manchester groups I'm in and watching the sob stories get less believable every minute...
