Have changed from AVG to Avira tonight - going on the recs on here and now need to make sure I'm safe with the emails as I understand that I'm now not covered. What do I need to put on. Am a total silver surfer wally with all this - so all help will be gratefully received. Ta

Do you click at random on emails from addresses you do not recognise?
If No, then I'd say don't worry because Avira (I use it) will catch any nasties which escape if you should be unlucky. Make sure the AntiVir Guard is enabled.
If you're the type that clicks on anything and everything without considering the consequences, then I expect some suggestions will be posted.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I also use Avira and a great piece of kit IMO. As spud17 says Ims just don't open anything that you think is spam and you wont go wrong.I run superantispyware and malawarebytes anti malaware with a commodo firewall and have never had any problem what so ever.'HAIL HAIL' :dance:0

If theres any 'attachments' your unsure of ~ save them to your desktop first THEN open them so Avira can catch them should they be infected:idea:0

A great program that I use is Mailwasher free http://www.mailwasher.net/
With this you can read your mail outside of yout PC and choose which mails you need and which to delete, Alan.Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm WELSH. .0 -
Exactly re all the above.
I did used to like to have the security of e-mail scanning, but realised I never open attachments from anyone I don't know, attachments from people I know, I always save to a folder on the desktop and manually full scan first just in case, takes about 5 seconds, and never had a problem. This is being over cautious as setup properly Avira will catch anything suspect saved to or opened from the HD, but still like to ensure everything is safe!0 -
Many thanks to all who replied.:D
I am, and always have been a very cautious opener of emails, so I think I'm safe and will scan from my desktop as suggested just to be sure.0
