Hope someone can help.
I have a Hotpoint WMA58 that trips the electric when switched on unless the temp is set to 20 degrees. I believe the thermostat could be the problem, anyone had the same.

Just give it time and it will start to boil your washing even when set at 30. Mine did. Search the net for reviews. I`ll never ever get a hotpoint again0

If it is a cold water fill only then it has a couple of heating elements to heat the incoming water to the correct temp. My best guess is that one has gone faulty and thus it only trips when it needs to use that one (to go beyond 20 degrees). If it was the thermostat then I would expect it would trip regardless of the setting.
Get a local washer guy out to it.0
