my whole worry with this email i got is if there is someone out there registered on bebo pretending that my email address is theirs and maybe even pretending to be me. they could then be upto no good.
Wow that is quite a dissemination of misinformation and completely false.
You never need to give Facebook access to your e-mail account - and I'd recommend you never do - you certainly don't have to agree to this to register either.
You should setup facebook with a separate account and login as with any other site.
There is an option to log into facebook / friends lists with your hotmail or similar account and let facebook automatically add all your contacts from these e-mail services into your friends list - this is an option and I personally don't know anyone who uses it - it's found under the add friends or add people you know functions.0 -
and how would they access it?
they have your email address but no password
i think you have misunderstood the screen
they send a confirmation email0 -
You have the option to allow facebook or bebo access to your email account. It's up to you if you want them to.
The way it works is this: You sign up, you can put in your hotmail/yahoo email address and optionally allow them access by giving them the password. They access the account and get all your contacts. Then they automatically add all these people as friends. I am sure you can skip this stage if you want to.
Those contacts who are not signed up already are sent an email requesting them to join. They get the email from your friends contact list. Which is an email that the OP probably has.
I believe you can simply ignore it. If you sign up using the same email address as they sent it to, you will already have friend requests. If you want to!0 -
i just made up an email address to see again what i saw. i gave a yahoo email in registration. it then takes you to yahoo to sign in, after you have done that and look on the facebook page it says in the space for password that it has already been entered on my email address. so when you clicked to go to the email it sees what your pasword is on your email account. when you click to find friends it then asks for permission to access your email and if you say no it takes you away from being logged in to facebook.0

Donna ~
You do NOT need to give your email password away to join Bebo, or Facebook or Myspace etc
Once youve signed up you get a link to click to clarify you DO want to join. Then forget the rest, just goto FACEBOOK and sign in with the newly created username and password (NOTHING to do with your email password):idea:0 -
it looked very dodgy to me.0

I assure you that your email password is NOT needed to join any of them. Theres nothing more I can say:idea:0

never click on any link or image in an unsolicited (spam) email that is how trojans and viruses are spread
I just got a similar email - including the link - and it does look very phishy.
That said, I had forgotten I have a Bebo account (as you do) and apparently this random person (Maureen Rothe - based on her youthful appearance, I suspect not her real name) did indeed add me.
FYI, the email looks like this: THIS IS AN OFFICIAL BEBO EMAIL, IT JUST READS A LOT LIKE SPAM!!
Fay xxxxx
Maureen Rothe <spammylookingemail@yahoo.com> has added you as a friend on Bebo.
IMPORTANT: Please click on the link below to confirm whether you know Maureen Rothe:

Note: Your profile is private but you can still get friend requests so your friends can add you.
