Council want to demolish our house

The council are wanting to demolish our house, and most on the estate, to build 'green land' and more houses.
However Im not completely sure were going to come out of it for the better.
We had no intension on moving, so were been forced out.
We can not afford to hold out, as the chance is we will loose.
Can anyone tell us, what rights do they have to force you out of your home. We own it, the deeds clearly state that the house and land is ours. At one point it was a council house, but as far as I'm concerned, they gave up any rights to the land and house when they allowed someone else, (before us), to buy it from them.
What is a compulsery purchase order all about? Surely this takes all out human rights away?
Are they saying, although you buy a house and spend time, money and love, making it a home. Someone like the council can just come along and take it all away from you, no matter what.

There is a lot of this going on in Stoke on Trent at the moment. Whole estates are now laying desolate because people were given compulsory purchase orders to move out.
One lady got turfed out, got a set amount for her home, the council didnt demolish it but just redecorated and sold it for more than they gave her.
That wasn't much help but just to let you know its going on in a few places. I'm really not sure what you can do - do you have a solicitor you can consult about it? Can you and the other people affected put a petition together?0 -
If they have gone through the CPO process they can buy your house - this process takes years so you should be aware if it has happened.
CPO is very complicated and you need expert advice which the Council should be paying for.
Barry Denyer Green is a leading expert and writes books on CPO - well worth getting from the library so you are at least partly informed.

I sympathise. I have been there. In our case it was a housing association 'regenerating' the area.
I'm sorry, but we found there was no point in fighting, you will only end up with threats of less money being paid for the property and compulsary purchase. I hope that someone comes along with better news for you and that you do have a chance of holding on to your home.
Out of interest, are you in Hampshire? I know there is a huge 'regeneration' project planned there with the same HA who bought our home.0 -
Hi, I'm not an expert on the compulsory purchase thing so hopefully someone with more knowledge will help. I just wanted to say that near me the council demolished a housing estate lots of them were privately owned ( bought from the council over the years ), they offered the market value for them ( as it was being rundown by the council it was not a lot ) and they were offered a council house to rent or take the money and to re buy. The land was for a new housing development which has not been built and the land is just wasteland now. I think that they can and will make you sell. It is not fair how they can do this and you have my sympathies. Good luck.0

"One lady got turfed out, got a set amount for her home, the council didnt demolish it but just redecorated and sold it for more than they gave her."
Half the story.
Under CPO rules any property bought under a CPO must be offered back to the original owner should the property subsequently not be required - if they don't want it it can be sold. Known as the Crichel Down Rules.
The woman who was turfed out probably didn't want it back.0 -
Have you become a victim of fatty two Jags Prescotts pathfinder scheme? If so,google and find a support/protest group0

There is an area of private housing not far from us which was being bought up for a big redevelopment. I am not sure how much of it was subject to CPO's, but now the HA involved has had to back out, presumably due to financial problems, and the houses are being renovated and let out.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
