Help with spread sheets please

Hi. I am finally trying to sort out bills and arrears etc and think it will be helpful to put it on an excel spreadsheet...
Here lies the problem. I am trying to show
a) what the bill is for
b) outstanding balance
c)the payments I make
so that as I go along putting the amounts I've paid the balance will automatically calculate to show the bill reducing.
Please can someone help me with this as I don't know where to start.
Many thanks in anticipation

  • It might be worth having a look at gnucash instead of a spreadsheet. Its free personal accounts software.

Good luck with your spreadsheet (or that free personal accounts thingy)
I love my spreadsheet.. it keeps me sane! A short while back I had a prob with my laptop and couldn't switch it on- I daren't spend anything for a week 'cos I couldn't 'see' what it would do to my finances without my spreadsheet. Maybe I'm a bit bonkers though...:D

No laura - you have just become and obsessive DFW'er like most of us...
i take great pleasure in as soon as my salary hits my account getting my calculator out and to the penny working out the bills that are going out and what is left etc - don't ask me why I do it EVERY month - not like the figures change that much month to month but I insist on doing it every pay day none the less...

Thanks Sammy... but it won't open-it says I don't have the file to support it.
I have excel on my pc but still haven't a clue how to set up a suitable spreadsheet

Yeah I'm loving my spreadsheet too. I've had it for about 4 years but the reason it wasn't working for me until recentley was because I wasn't being true to it and putting in EVERYTHING I spend on.

If you are gonna do it make sure you don't be too strict on yourself too or it just wont work :)

    Best of luck.

P.S I often update mine at work and when people walk by they think I'm doing some really clever complex project, mwah ha ha :)

I do exactly the same!!! Although I did have a big banner at the top that said TOTAL DEBT: £10,070 and I had to delete that coz I didn't want people to know my sorry state of affairs in the office!!

Love having the spreadsheet - every little thing makes a difference. I've even got a tally of how many Boots advantage points i have :T
    End of 2010 I was £8,007.66 in debt :(
    Today's total: £7,297.06 :o
