Pancakes - dairy free

I can no longer eat any dairy - does anyone have a tried and trusted recipe for pancakes that uses no butter or milk?

Sorry, no - but you could use soya rice or oat milk and some kind of egg substitute - you can buy vegan egg sub, or use a mix of soya flour with water I believe. If egg is ok, than just use egg....

For butter, add the equivalent amount of oil - thats no problem.

I have made pancakes with soya milk before and they have been fine - and have used oil instead of melted butter (it was handier) and had no problems.

I'm fine with eggs - I just wondered if anyone had tried a recipe that actually works - as I'm fed-up with chucking away 'substitutes'.
  • I have been a strict vegan for years so this is old hat to me.
First you replace the Butter with PURE Margerine ASDA & Sainsbury both sell this, second replace the milk with any good brand of soya milk.

I don't do eggs being vegan so for savoury pancakes I use Tahini this is an easy Protine based food which binds just like eggs would.

But if you want a recipe try

    or

They are great once you have the knack.

There's no butter in pancakes. The normal ingredients are:
    1 cup of flour
    1 egg
    pinch of salt
enough milk to achieve the consistency of double cream
You might wish to whisk about a tablespoon of oil into the batter rather than oiling the pan to help prevent sticking.

I presume you could replace the milk with rice milk or soya milk.
