We viewed a house with a back boiler today- first one we've seen, most houses seem to have combi boilers. it didn't seem very convenient to us and we wondered; can you simply replace one with a combi boiler or is it a more complicated job than that??
Would be good to hear some advice-thanks.

Yes you can replace it. It just involves pipework alterations, different controls etc. See a heating engineer for a quote. remember..cheapest isnt always best also dont assume that a combi is the best solution for you.0

I have a baxi back boiler and I would'nt swap it. It has given me years of red hot water and heating. It gets a yearly service and apart from that there has'nt been anything wrong with it.
If it ain't broke don't fix it !0 -

wish I hadn't changed my old Baxi for a separate boiler and coal effect gas fire ! Cost me nearly £5000 and the fire has given me MONTHS of trouble since Christmas. B****y thing keeps turning itself off - all moving parts have been replaced, they've mucked about with the chimney, totally refitted the fire and now they want to unblock the air vent that they stopped up when they fitted the new fire cos they daid I DIDN'T NEED A VENT!!! My living room is 22 ft long and open plan into my dining room and kitchen (I do have double doors between but they are nearly always open). The Oxy sensor keeps throwing a wobbly and it shuts down 2/3 times per night.
I've even phoned Baxi myself for advice (cos the Gas Board can't suggest anything else) and they say opening the vent is a load of rubbish ! I have now had something like 10 different visits and around 16 engineers here (sometimes more than once a day).
I really wish I'd kept my old Baxi - might have been 18 years old but, with a yearly service, it worked a treat.ELITE 5:2
