Fossil lost my 12 year old watch and I want to know what my rights are?

There is a reason for this long preamble, so please bear with me..............
I had a 12 year old watch, bought in 1996 for £60 duty free at Gatwick Airport. It was a really funky number which I loved and which raised many comments over the years, but is a style that Fossil no longer make.
In October 2008, Fossil sent it away for repair at their expense (as it stopped working when they were trying to change a battery). On December 4th, their workshop say that it left there, but was not sent recorded delivery - although all items are sent from the shop to the workshop by this method.
In the past 5 months, it has been me who has constantly called the Fossil shop in Bluewater, asking what was happening with my watch, despite them saying each time I call that they would "put a note in the book and would call me in two weeks". They never ever did.....I did all the running.
Six weeks ago I was told that my watch was lost in transit from the workshop to the store and that someone would call me back in a couple of weeks to let me know what my entitlement was. No-one did, so I wrote to them and asked. Yesterday I received a response saying that I was entitled to £75 and another 10% off anything else I would like to buy in the store. I phoned and declined this as I thought that due to their negligence, my lovely irreplaceable watch had been lost. Today, they phoned and upped their offer to £85, but again, I declined this. The reasons for this are:
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The reasons for this are:
- It was worth £60 duty free, 12 years ago. Allowing for inflation - and using an online price indicator - this would be worth £84.00 (duty free) today
- I was the one who did all of the running - I made the phone calls, wrote the letters etc. Fossil did nothing.
- Through their negligence, my irreplaceable watch has been lost, so I think that a gesture of goodwill is necessary within the replacement offer and I think it's arrogance not to offer this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I could be very wrong on this but if they lost it they could of said sorry mr customer we sent it. Its not our problem any more its royal mail/parcel force (or which ever company etc). Sorry
But as they have admitted there was an error on there part and giving you £85 in my opinion I would be more than happy with and take it and buy a new watch and in 12 years time still have this one0 -
I would be inclined to think this type of merchandise can be bought cheaper now. It's a fashion watch.0

Why don't you find a watch that YOU like as a replacement, then ask that it's yours free of charge? Pick something a little more expensive, to make up for all the phone calls you've had to make!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

The problem with items of sentimental value is that the law does not take this into account. After all, to you it may be irreplaceable but to anyone else it is worth £2.50 as a knackered old fashion watch.
The law says you are entitled to be compensated for your loss.
Your loss is a 12 year old watch, which taking into account depreciation would be virtually worthless (unless you are able to show this particular watch has become collectable or more valuable).
Their offer (in law) is more than generous.0 -
Describing a low value watch as irreplacable0

The contract is between the sender and the courier, so it is very much the sender's problem.

Your joking right?0 -
They have made you a very fair offer considering your watch was 12 years old and probably coming to the end of it's life.
They could have depreciated your old watch over the 12 years and offered you a £10 as a goodwill gesture or a replacement second hand watch.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
