The Cost Of Solicitors Fees?

Being new to the property ladder i am still trying to find my feet. After getting my mortgage accpeted in principal and paying out for a valuation fee i am now looking at solicitor fees. The mortgage is with the post office and after speaking to a advisor from there today they I have to use one of theres selected from a panel or pay between £100-200 penalty if I want to use one from somwhere else. They give me a estimated cost inclusive of all searches etc and it comes to £1035.19 this does not include any other fees such as lending fees etc. Is this over priced? it seems a little high from reading around but a lot of the info i have read is a tad old so i am unsure. I was just after a rough estimate what I should be looking at to compare.
Thanks alot
Thanks alot

That's an awful lot - does that include an arrangement fee, or just the conveyancing work? I'd expect about half that, though it's four years since I moved so I may be out of date.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0

Why not ring around 2 or 3 local firms and ask them what the final bill should be? Add on the £100-£200 above and then make your decision.0 -
