Anyone got a CCNA?

As I want to get into network security, It's probably best if I get a CCNA. And since I'm looking for work at the moment I'm guessing it would help if I got one ASAP.
I have touched upon the pre-reqs (OSI layers, subnets etc) in my uni degree but that was 6 years ago and I haven't used the theory stuff since so I'm a bit rusty. Probably going to have to do:
640-821 INTRO Introduction to Cisco Networking Technologies (INTRO)
640-811 ICND Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices (ICND)
But it's looking like around £2500 if I want to do courses.
Can you do 640-821 INTRO and then a few months later do 640-811 ICND ? Or do they have to be back to back?
Cheers.

Cheers for the tip - I was looking for a college as some of them do CCNAs and are a bit cheaper than the professional trainers.

I recommend getting ebooks from this guy.
as the cisco exam has changed during the last 6 years- (eg ipx removed).
his ebooks will have the up-to-date info on what the newer exam tests you on-, helped me out loads.

Thanks - is the exam an international one then - not a UK specific one?3dom wrote:I recommend getting ebooks from this guy.

Are these guides better than the Cisco official ones from amazon?0 -
Yes cisco's exam are international.
If you go to http://www.prometric.com/Default.htm
You can locate a test site nearest to your postcode. (Examination only)
I didn't buy the official cisco books as I heard that they missed out NAT and other stuff. Luckly I didn't have to- as eveything the exam required is in the Chris Bryants books- nothing more. (i did the single approach - 640-801 exam).
I am planning on doing the ccna again but via accadamy this time so I can get a degree out off it.
I will be buying the 'ccna 1 and 2' as my accadamey requires us to have it. But otherwise you can pass just by getting his books + router hands on experience which helps too. (ebay)
hope that helps
edit- test site is for examination only0 -
If I get a router can I use it on my workgroup network or do I have to set it up as a domain?
What router would you suggest getting?
Should I get a wireless ADSL one as I might use it in the future, or just a bog standard cheapy one (less complicated)?0 -
Did my CCNA at Huddersfield tech. 3 nights a week (6-9pm - i think)
Think it cost me near £300, then another £150ish for the exam.0 -

My CCNA books include NAT. Infact theres about 20 pages of NAT. The CCNA offical books r good but they are American so half of it is taken up with silly health and safety regulations due to their claim lifestyle.0 -
Its all up to you.
Rememeber ADSL routers and CABLE routers (ntl/Telewest) are two different broadband technologies so choose appropriately.
If you get a cisco router where you can mess around with ios commands you'll probably will be making changes to it constantly, so I got a seperate cable router for my personal/internet network and two cisco routers for my ccna study.
Just checked the prices on the exam
icnd is £56
intro is £56 too
or
the ccna one approach is £84
hope that helps
Ti4 I got the ebook verisons and they had no nat, they must have updated them.0
