BMW Oil Service??
I'm trying to save some cash, but at the same time get my car serviced appropriately (BMW garage prices      )
Anyway, I'm due an oil service (it's a 2004 318se) and was wondering if anyone has an oil service checksheet from a BMW garage. I've got a mechanic who will do the job, I just need to know what needs checking etc??

It is in the handbook.0

If you can reach the oil-filter from the top of the engine (instead of having to get at it from below), it might be worth you buying yourself a Pela and doing the service yourself.
Check this out if you have Quicktime installed.

I do loads of cars with it, and haven't had any issues.0 -
out of warranty get a small garage to do it, or do it yourself0

Have you asked your local dealer about the four plus scheme? It gives a discount on servicing/repairs etc. I think the discount on labour (the expensive part!) is 25%.0

You only get 20 minutes to do an oil service on a BMW as that is all it is. As pointed out above, the filter can be fidly to get to.0

We've just had the oil service on our 1 series. Got it done at BMW garage.
For both oil service & MOT is cost us £140 which we didn't think was too bad lol.(now everyone is gonna say that was expensive!) Maybe you should get a quote and u might be suprised with the price!0 -

Doesnt sound too bad..oil maybe £20 filter maybe £8 MoT £54 rest is labour.0 -
The full synthetic oil alone was £66 last time I had it done, filter might have been less that £20, don't remember. £138 for the whole job and it only needs doing about every 20,000 miles so ends up being no more expensive that a Toyota that needs doing twice as often at half the price.
Routine servicing on a BMW at outside London dealers is not too bad on price especially considering the low frequency they need doing, repairs is where it can get scary.
For a 2004 318i I'd make sure your local independent garage uses the right oil, genuine OEM BMW oil filter and give them the work.0 -
Thanks for the info folks. My mums partner is doing the service for me (he's a machanic by trade.
Can't say as I've seen anything in the handbook about it, but I'll have another look I may have missed something
xxjennyxx, do have still have the service sheet, could you perhaps confirm it is literally just an oil/filter change0 -
With all BMW service schedule an oil service is just an oil and filter change and nothing else.
Then you have Inspection 1, Inspection 2 and brake fluid every 2 years.
Does your Mum's partner have the reset tool to reset you service indicator lights?
I think they are about £12 off ebay.0
