For the past year I've had separate cover for washing machine repairs ... this year it will cost £79 to renew. I havent had to use it so far (touch wood!) . The question is, is it worth this extra cost or would it be better covered under house insurance?

how much was the machine new?
I've never taken out separate insurance for appliances and I've never had a problem except for a Bosch washine machine which got blocked with gunk (turned out it was a known issue with them).0 -

Indeed, I've had one callout in 13 years - and that turned out to be a 'no fault found' for which I wasn't charged.
If I'd been paying £79 a year I'd now be £1027 worse off.Stompa0 -
you can buy new machines for 150/200 quid.
why on earth would you need a 79 quid pa waranty?Get some gorm.0 -
Not worth getting the warranty as everyone else has said, but it wont be covered for breakdown on your home insurance, only it being stolen (unlikely it is quite heavy) or destroyed or damaged in some other event.0

Hi,
I wouldn't bother with the insurance, I think it is always best to invest in the machine rather than pay insurance. One exception Miele give a 10 year guarantee with their mid through to high end machines at the moment so that makes the £800 ish purchase price very worth while.0 -
point taken everyone. I'll save the 79 quid. The machine cost about £280 brand new. I got 2 years guarantee with it and last year paid £69 to extend it. I wont bother this year as judging by the posts above its cheaper to invest in a new one when this packs up.0

My d-i-l bought a Miele with a free 10 yr parts and labour guarantee last year. What a cracking deal. Even if it conks out one day after the guarantee expires it will only have cost £80 a year. She's had it a few months now and is thrilled with it and it's so quiet. I hope when I need to renew my old Hotpoint I can get the same deal with a Miele. Failing that I'll go for an ISE with the 10 year guarantee.0 -
We would never take out product insurance. But what we do is to make sure that we have the equivalent amount of money available for repairs or replacement. Having said that, I think that in 48years we might possibly have had a faulty appliance once. I think that it was an upright freezer that needed a new compressor.. Maybe we have just been lucky.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Hi,
wondering if anybody can help. I have an indesit wld126s washer/dryer, which is just about two years old. Recently if I select certain programmes (most Of ) them actually, it goes into a wash but as soon as it empties it goes spin/drain/spin/drain cycle and ignores the rinse, conditior etc and continues like this until I switch the machine off. It is hit and miss if I get it to go through a proper cycle, I have tried most programmes and generally it ends up doing the same thing. I spoke to a washing machine repair man (1) and he said get a new one as it is probably cheaper, if this is the best idea what washer/dryer that is fairly cheap would people recommend or should I pay indesit £99 parts and labour to get it fixed??0
