After her first season and when all her puppy coat is come out. My ex had an ESS done and it's coat looks very strange.0

Ask your vet - some are happy to do it before first season, some prefer 3 months after first season, but that means being very vigilant whilst she is in season.
There are advantaged to both, in some large breeds its better to wait till after the season, however, b1tches speyed before their first season have zero risk of mammary cancers, which are quite common in unspeyed b1tches, or those speyed later on.0 -
with my gsd i was advised by breeder to get her done 20 weeks after first season.THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.0

hi - I will be getting my cocker done after her season which she started a week ago - can anyone tell me how long this season will last - she has suddenly decided to be houdini which is not stressful at all!0

The figures I have seen for risk of mammary tumours are 1 in 250 for spayed before first season, 1 in 12 for between 1st and 2nd and 1 in 4 for spayed later or not at all.foreign_correspondent wrote: »There are advantaged to both, in some large breeds its better to wait till after the season, however, b1tches speyed before their first season have zero risk of mammary cancers, which are quite common in unspeyed b1tches, or those speyed later on.
A season is on average 3 weeks for the obvious signs although this is variable between dogs. The first season can be a little unusual and possibly shorter.0 -
Thanks snowman, thats useful to know, but 1 in 4 is very high isn't it?
That, coupled with the risk of pyometra, which I believe to be very high in older unspeyed b1tches makes the op worthwhile, add on the benefits of not having blood spots on the carpet and not having to watch out for randy boy dogs makes speying a bit of a no-brainer really!
libby - about three weeks, but the week or so after she stops bleeding will be when she is very interesting to males - so dont think its over and be less vigilant!0 -
Thank you all for your replies. She's just finished her 1st season, so I should get her done asap before her second one! Thanks again
