One last query. In the middle of the first Avast scan, I wasn't offered a 'move to chest' option, but it asked did want to move/rename the virus. Avast had not picked up a virus before, so I didn't know the procedure and it looked like a recommendation to move. Especially as it offered a named location to move to. So I moved it. I think it was to C:\Program Files\Awil Software\Avast4\Data\Moved. This is what was subsequently moved to the virus chest.

Is it normal procedure for Avast to ask if you want move/rename a virus - and did I do the right thing? Thanks.

Ill answer here as its a security question to me ~ theyve put software on your computer to use their facilities. But the software is 'questionable' (As in theres no need for it and its questioned as to why they use it in the first place ~ possibly adware/spyware). If your happy then use it, but I wouldnt personally

Avast ~ never come across that before but maybe in its initial state Avast couldnt do anything BUT move/rename it THEN it was able to move to the chest so id say you did fine

Thanks for your reply and reassurance that I did the right thing!

Given my lack of knowledge about the behaviour of nasties, it was bothering me that there are still quite a few Avast program files on my pc, with similar beginnings to the one that I moved.

Pinecone is a consumer research company. They appear to be very protective of their business and its projects and get upset when anyone discusses them here (or anywhere else) and the MSE forum board guides have issued warnings to not speak about them!

Pinecone requested that users download the software so that product images can be viewed as part of the evaluation process. I wasn't entirely happy with this, but agreed because I thought that the software would be used for legitimate purposes.

Dont worry about it as quite a few people have it ~ ive just no clue HOW you get it, or what it does!
