PSP problem!!

This might be an absurd post, I presented my friends son with a brand new PSP game but it does not work on his console (Sony PSP 2003). He can play all other games including the new ‘BEN-10’

Today, I took the game to the shop and the shop assistant loaded the game onto their console (Sony PSP 2004) and it was working fine.

Can anyone let me know what the problem could be???

Some games need a firmware upgrade to run them, perhaps he hasn't upgraded the firmware or has custom firmware installed for playing homebrew games?

Also, not sure what you mean by 2003 and 2004. There have been 3 versions of the PSP, the first was model 1000, the second was the slim and lite (model 2000 - year 2007 I believe) and the third (3000) was only released in 2009.
If you are talking about years then I am not sure if the PSP was out then and if it was you would be on the same model.

There are not just the 3 versions you say, they are 1000 series 2000 series and now the new 3000 series, the 1000 and 2000 have different model numbers dependant on when it was released/produced.

There is no reason why the game won't play on a 2003 and play on a 2004 the whole idea of consoles is that they play everything thing released on the format. There are firmware updates required to play some games but these are included on the games if the game needs a certain firmware it will include it on the UMD and the user can upgrade the console.

The only reason someone wouldn't want to update their firmware is to make use of homebrew games and software.

    Thanks for all your replies.....

The PSP is the 2000 series and the game is 'Ratchet and CLank - Size Matters (PLATINUM).

And is the firmware standard or is it dodgy to allow games to be played via memory card?
