A friend of mine had 2 Main Coons... 1 she got as a kitten who is gorgeous and fluffy and very very friendly...

The other was a retired stud cat, but sadly, when he came to her he had an undisclosed gut condition and after 6 months of suffering with soupy litter trays and many vet visits he had to be put to sleep...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

My MIL has 2 maine coons I find them not much different from any cat really except for the size!! now when I see fully grown 'normal' cats I have to ask if they're a kitten or not coz they all seem tiny!
I will say, as for all long haired breeds they are a complete pain in terms of moulting and requiring brushing and _pale_ getting pooh stuck in their tail fur.

They are beautiful cats though and I can recommend the breeder known as "Purdyston" that's where they came from think they are near leeds. details on here
Just like all cats they have their own personalities; Cato is a bit shy and independent the don't call me I'll call you type but Rufus loves to be cuddled and is happy to be picked up whenever you want and will sit for hours on ur lap.

Any more specific Qu's I can try to answer?

I know absolutely nothing about them myself, but my friend has bred and showed them for umpteen years!! She's classed as a "small hobby cattery."

If you wanted to have a peep at some of her cats or read up about them, this is her website: http://www.snoocoons.co.uk/
or if you want to give her a ring or send an e-mail to ask any questions (and she is a lovely lady who would sit and chat with you for hours about anything at all to do with them, so don't be scared to contact her!) then tell her Angie from EW gave you her website address.

Definitely best to go in with your eyes open and glean as much info as possible from everyone!

PS there is a page on her website where you can submit questions *S* haven't noticed that before although I've only looked at the piccies!!

    Hi
    we have two,
    both boys, gorgeous,
one a black smoke, the other a silver tabby.(merlyn and pookie),
merlyn is a shyer type, very cuddly, never gets wound up playing etc,
pookie, he gets excited and playes very hard, a very cheeky boy, very cuddly,
the hair though, OMG, vacuumed yesterday, this morning every single stair and everywhere else,
apart from that and the fact they are very large cats, they are a fantastic breed.love our normal moggies, and doggies etc.
id recommend using a breeder that has been recommended, lol. above posts look promising.
our two have a radiator bed each and are there now, with my moggie on third one.
THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.

I have 2, Merlin (my avatar) is 4 years old and a grey tabby. He isn't a huge cat and has very fine fur that knots easily. He has always looked old and a bit scruffy, but he has the most adorable sweet nature. He doesn't meow, he chirrups and his purr is just heavy breathing!

Then I have Tig who is a massive brown tabby who is very affectionate and demands cuddles by being very vocal and reaching out with a paw to tap you. His fur never knots, even though it is twice as thick as Merlin's.

They are quite laidback but there best quality is their interest in being around people - this usually means you have to put up with them sitting on the kitchen worktop watching you prepare meals and accompanying you to the bathroom!

    I think I read that they are a V close relative ;)

I love their "snow shoes" I can confirm that they are pretty hardy too, after Cato got himself onto MIL's roof and couldn't work out how to get down  it was Jan last year and freezing but he was fine after spending the night up there!

I have two coons - an adult girl who is blue and white, and a silver tabby kitten, and they are lovely cats, very affectionate and friendly, and incredibly laid back. We have just moved house and they were settled almost instantly. I don't find them too bad for shedding - when they do shed it tends to be little clumps/tufts rather than individual hairs, which is a lot easier to manage, especially on your clothes (my adult is predominantly white....)

I have had moggies before and have one just now who I adore. The coons are different personality wise - very intelligent, the kitten plays fetch, and they love to explore! They also seem to be totally unbothered by anything - noise, new people, other animals, etc. Both have been introduced to a very hyper golden retriever, and couldn't have cared less.

Oh, yes, and I would second the comments about following you into the bathroom. Both of mine do it!

oh yeah, the fir does come out in clumps,
i think its spreads around so much cos we have two coons and a few moggies, n they must drag it around with them,
ours also follow into bathroom etc,
    gorgeous friendly cats.
my moggy plays fetch ,so does my horse, lol.
