Advice needed on housing benefit rates!!

Hiya all,
I am due to move home in a few months time because my contract is up where I live,
And the council won't tell me what the rates are eg the maximum they'll pay, in housing benefit, and I was wondering if anyone here can tell me roughly...I was on Contribution based JSA and working part time but I have just lost my job so am now moving to Income based JSA and claiming Housing benefit and council tax benefit.

How much would a single person in Liverpool receive both for a shared property and for a place to live on their own? I am hoping to live on my own to be honest, and don't want to move into somewhere I won't be able to afford. I am thinking along the lines of a little studio flat somewhere, not some big plush pad!!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise me at all, even if it's just rough figures.

Your local government website should tell you all this information. You will be allowed to claim for maximum of 1 bed property but the rates for this should be on the website.

    couple of things to note
LHA replaced housing benefit for private rents (so does not apply to housing association ets)
The shared room/1 bedroom depends on your age and whether you have any disability
eg if you are under 25 you would get the shared room rate but it doesn't mean you have to have shared accomodation (and vice versa)
try the calculator here with your circumstances and area and it should give you the current maximum

  • Thank you; I had been looking online but couldn't find anything. It's ridiculous that they would expect under 25s to have to share and so pay less anyway; under 21s is another matter!! I am disabled but am still battling out trying to get DLA...
  • AH, I've been through this before, these websites but cannot find the rates themselves anywhere and I still can't.
