Taking My 4yr old nephew out to the USA - is authorisation needed?

I have been told from my travel agent that I would only need a note from my sister to allow me to take my nephew(4yrs) on holiday!
What concerns me is that any one could have wrote the note?!
Has anyone took a child away before that wasn't theirs?
Panicking now don't want to have any problems .....
HELP and ADVICE any one ?
Thanks

You have already been advised though? And your advice - By a travel Agent who deals with travel - was to take a note.
Another problem solved.
I think the question was what form the note should be. Clearly anyone can write "a note" purporting to be from a child's (who's not your Child) parent or legal guardian. So, how do the proper Authority(ies) know that the "note" is genuine and not something prepared earlier by, say, an abductor or someone snatching the child for whatever reason. It all looks a bit sloppy to me if all your need to take a child, when you are neither the parent or legal guardian, out of the country is a “note”.
I think the OP needs their mind putting at rest not unhelpful bland comments about Travel Agent's advice which, if you read half the threads in this topic, will often be seen to be not wholly accurate, current or reliable.0 -

She asked a travel agent - The travel agent said take a letter.
I don't understand the problem.
What more can be done?0 -

thank you this is what i was meaning!
I am worried to the advice the travel agents "just get a note"
I could just write the note myself ( who is to know?). Am I worrying because i can't find any information other than the Travel agents - maybe i am worrying over nothing! He hasn't even my family name?!?!
Sorry if this shouldn't have posted but i just wanted to hear others who have done the same
Thanks0 -
travel agents are also quite good at telling people that they don't need visa's when they in fact do,I would also want to clarify the situation rather than just take the travel agents word for it.
I think there is something called a parental consent form, you need to make sure you and your sister are clear on what happens(god forbid) if medical treatment is needed by your nephew, only the person with parental consent can agree to treatment.0 -
From a previous thread this was posted.

It is advisable to have :
- letter from parents with their contact details, who is going on the holiday, how you are connected and holiday details (notarised is even better)
- copies of parents passports attached and even full length birth certificates if no names are shared between parents and child
- copies of any relevant papers when it comes to custody of the child
- anything else you can think of that could be relevant
- red book for the child, any other medical notes (nothing to do with immigration procedures, just thinking of fact it's not your child and you might find this stuff useful if you need medical help)"Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

THANKS
will check these out!0 -
Absolute garbage.
You need just a letter. Written and signed by the parent or legal guardian.
What the hell is the red book going to prove? Or passport pictures? Amd why the birth certificate? The child has a passport.
This is typical scaremongering and nothing more than making assumptions.
The truth is that is is getting him OUT of the UK which is the tricky part, getting him into the US is EASY since it is assumed that he has been given the all clear by UK border control.
There.
Another problem solved...... Again0
