i've only recently started living on my own and never know which herbs to buy?

Start with mixed herbs, and then get the individual ones as and when needed and as and when you can afford them.

Thanks Zippychick - that link should keep me going, im gonna try a few of those recipes!
Diva - think this is the recipe ill use for tonight - i don't have carrots but have everything else except herbs - i've only recently started living on my own and never know which herbs to buy?
Depends on what you cook! Get more common ones first - Curry, chilli, cumin, coriander, basil, thyme, rosemary, oregano, then more "exotic" ones like garam masala, different types of seeds, turmeric, chilli flakes, etc etc. It is addictive once you start. If you have a scoop a market or chinese/indian store u may be able to pick them up even cheaper.:money:

    Hiya

This is a family favourite, which I enjoy making as it's quick, easy and cheap (a pasta after my own heart ;)).

    Tuna and Tomato Pasta

    1 tbsp olive oil
    1 Chopped Onion
1 clove of garlic crushed (or more, if you like garlic)
    1 Tin chopped tomatoes
Pinch of chilli flakes or chilli powder
1 Tin of Tuna, drained and flaked
    Salt and pepper to taste
    Fish stock cube (optional)
Enough pasta to fill you up!

Heat the oil gently in a deep pan, and gently fry onions until almost soft. Add garlic and cook the mixture until onions are completely soft (don't let the garlic brown).

Add the chopped tomatoes and chilli flakes/powder, and simmer gently for 10 minutes. (In the meantime, cook pasta according to instructions).

When onion/garlic/tomato/chilli mixture has simmered for 10 minutes, add tuna and heat through. Season to taste. If you feel it needs a bit more 'oomph', you can add a fish stock cube too.

Drain pasta, add sauce and serve.

(A bit of crusty bread bulks it out even more, and a bit of salad adds to your 'five-a-day'.)

I am interested to see what In debts recipe is? I for some reason don't cook with tuna. I'm not sure I like it warm in food?

Just for your info, there is a thread about different uses for tuna!

It is nice even on toast with some chopped onion. Tuna and cheese toasties used to be good too!

I don't have a recipe I am a throw it all in and see what happens type of cook! I would chop onion, couple cloves of garlic fry in olive oil until soft, add chopped tomatoes and tuna and mix through pasta with some black pepper and if I had some cheese put in an oven proof dish, top with the cheese and bake for 30 minutes.

we have what I call 'tuna bolognese' to get the kids to eat it lol

fry chopped onion, garlic, celery and carrot in olive oil, add tinned toms and cook down for about half an hour to a thick sauce, stir in a tin of tuna with a splash of red wine vinegar and warm through
