advice needed catholic church

  • It's at the priest's discretion. It is definitely possible, but some priests are more 'strict' / old fashioned than others.

My parents were married in a registry office, and for a big anniversary a few years ago they had a Catholic renewal of vows ceremony, in a church, despite not having been married in church - technically they were 'entitled' to a full wedding but the priest felt it would be inappropriate for them to have to have the full Monty, when they only wanted the renewal. In my (admittedly limited!) experience I've yet to meet a priest who still holds strictly to the 'no church no marriage' rule. Clearly I've been lucky!

I agree about finding yourself a new church with a more approachable priest though - priests are supposed to bring you closer to God, not scare you away!

But God would still welcome you even if the church doors are closed.

    Hi All,
thanks for all your advice it was a blessing I meant as I know I cannot renew my vows I am sorry I did not mean to start a great big huha about religion I know I am married and it make no difference to where it was done but unfortunatly when you are raised Catholic you feel terrible guilt if you do not marry in church and being brought up in Ireland makes it a bit worse lol well thanks again

I took your advice and contacted diocese who told me I can have a "conversion" which is a full wedding without the signing the legal papers as CC does not reconise our wedding in registry office so now I can get started thanks again and I hope you all have the best days ever
