Desktop Icons

With Windows it seems possible to view almost any folder as a list instead of icons except with the Desktop.

I would much prefer a simple alphabetical list. Is there any way of doing this? Is it possible to create one icon on which I can click to give a list?

If you are on XP, create a shortcut to: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Desktop and you can then view this folder how you like.

Vista uses a Users folder in a similar area, e.g: C:\Users\YourUserName\Desktop

You can view the contents of your Desktop in the same way as any other folder - its shortcut is normally the next level up from My Computer.

Open My Computer then click the 'Up' button.
