Help with paypal please!

hi there everyone,
i have just started selling on ebay, i only have a personal paypal account because i don't want to pay the paypal fee's as well as the ebay fees. For the first three items i sold there was no problem, i received payment from each user fine but for the last two items i have sold paypal will not let me accept payment without upgrading to a premier account. I have sent messages to each of the users asking if they paid through paypal and they both said they did - i stated in my item descriptions that i only accept paypal.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why i am not allowed to accept these payments?

I rang paypal's customer service line but what they told me didn't make any sense. They told me that the payments were by credit card through paypal.

I thought that if you have a personal paypal account its free to accept payment from another paypal account?

You cannot accept CC payments with the standard paypal account you have to upgrade or you could get a strike against you from the buyers

I thought if the credit card payment is through paypal then i can accept it just with a personal account.
Do you know how other people were paying me - how can you pay someone using paypal without using a credit card or bank card?

I hate Paypal !

You can only accept bank transfers and debit card payments with standard paypal.

If they have funds in their account, this is what they pay you with. If there are no funds then payment is sent by cc or bank account through ebay. As you have stated that you only accept paypal I think you need to upgrade your account otherwise your buyers won't be happy.

You have to upgrade to a premier account to accept credit card payments. Ebay wont let you state that you can only accept balance transfer as when you upgrade to a premier account they can start charging you fees. As well as open you up to credit card chargebacks.

I thought that when you use paypal no matter how you pay (e.g debit, credit card) that first money goes from your card to paypal then from paypal to paypal ie. personal account holders can accept credit card payments as along as they are done through paypal.
If this is not true can't the users who have won my auctions pay me by first transfering money from their credit card to their paypal account and then pay me using the funds in their paypal account?

I thought that if you have a premier paypal account that you can accept direct payment by credit card ie payment by someone with a credit card but no paypal account. Is it possible to pay for something on ebay to a paypal account using a credit card without having a paypal account?
Sorry if i seem dumb but ive been messing around with this all night, its seriously doing my head - wish i had never bothered with ebay in the first place!

Ken Korda what the others have said is quite correct. If you tick the 'I accept paypal' box on an auction you must take all forms of paypal payments.

However a basic account can only accept payment from an existing paypal balance, not from any form of card payments. To accept card payments you must upgrade to a premier account. Once you have a premier account you will be charged a fee for each and every payment you receive.


Some people will keep a paypal balance in their account, for example small time sellers who never reach the £50 free withdrawal limit, but the vast majority will either be just buyers who fund their purchase via a debit card, or sellers like me who clear their paypal balance entirely and fund purchases through a credit card.

As your auctions were paypal only you have no option other than to upgrade and accept the fees. Do this quickly though as people buying on a paypal only auction will almost certainly be expecting their goods immediately, and you run the risk of negative feedback and a non performing seller complaint if you delay for too long.

If you feel that the paypal charges are too high then don't use it, most of us have had to make a decision at one point or another about the cost of paypal and the benefits of using it, weighed against trying to sell on ebay without it being offered.

No. Just tick the paypal box. It means that you accept all forms of payment options allowed through paypal.

Paypal doesn't allow you to preload your Paypal account from your credit card anyway as far as I know and if it did then I think your credit card company would consider this a cash advance and charge you a fee + interest from day 1.
