Power cable help

Morning all,

I'm hoping someone will be able to give me a bit of advice. On my laptop, one of the wires going into the jack (the little bit which the power cable attaches to, I've taken a guess that that's what it's called) keeps coming off, so I have to keep taking it apart and re-attaching it.

What I want to know is, can I strip the ends of the wires going into the jack and the power cable and attach them together? Would it be safe to do this (with a shed load of duck tape around the wires) or would I be better off perservering and getting a mate to resolder the wire every time it comes off?

Also, if I am safe to do it (as it would be my preferred option) will it be fairly obvious which wires to attach together from the power cable and the laptop?

Help me moneysavers,

Tony
