Those who like the Google Web search engine and other Google products might want to try the Beta version of
Google's Desktop Search.
Just be aware that during the install process you are asked to select your preferences for a couple of things, including "Help google improve... by sending non-personal usage data to Google'. Although it is probably harmless enough, you may want to deselect this option.
The Desktop Search engine allows searching of emails (Outlook / Outlook Express), MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint, AOL Messenger, previously viewed web pages (may be IE only - not sure yet), and text files on your hard drive. Search is a LOT faster than other methods I have tried - especially for emails.
