Problem with Barclays ISA's

I opened a cash ISA last 30th March 2008 with Barclays but due to their delays I have just noticed they opened it on the next tax year for 2008-9 and I have just today tried to open another cash ISA and told I cannot until next tax year. I have the e mail from Barclays dated 30th March 2008 stating they thank me for my application for ISA for last tax year and paperwork showing similar but the document for my ISA is dated 9th April 2008!!
What can I do to rectify this mistake by Barclays in time to gain my tax haven for this year:mad:

Phone and write a letter to barclays and tell them about it.

Write to their complaints address, heading the letter COMPLAINT. Make sure you detail everything that has happened including dates of visits to branches, etc.

I lost my tax allowance last year too. I received £220 from Barclays plus another £50 when I got the Financial Ombudsman involved (had to get them involved as Barclays couldn't provide a final response within 8 weeks).
  • Barclays today told me they knew they had problems from last years ISA timings and had a letter from the tax office which will be released to cover customers to allow this years allowance. This was despite my bank records at their bank showing I could not do an ISA this year, and their staff seemed oblivious to it! This is a mess caused by poor cutomer service by another bank. I am awaiting what they have done and a complaint is ready when all facts with me
  • Similar issue with my girlfriend who opened an ISA and paid £500 in for the 2007-2008 tax year. It hadn't gone in and been cashed so went to Barclays who told her to put a stop on it because it had probably been lost. Asked to pay in another one as a replacement but this was now in the 2008-9 tax year and therefore was credited into that tax year, despite staff saying it would count as a replacement for the first cheque.

When the first cheque did finally arrive at Barclays they tried to cash it but couldn't - however, on their books it has been considered as a payment in and then withdrawn, meaning she can't put that money in again! Right old mess and a complaint was made... still no resolution, they have a backlog of complaints and are taking ages to go through them all! All thanks to last years ISA madness.
