Cat in a sticky situation!

My cat came in earlier absolutely covered in poo!! I put her straight in the bath, had no choice there was sooooo much of it!!

Anyway while drying her with a towel i came across chewing gum
Its over the side of her face sticking her whiskers together and on one paw up inside, so there is no way i can cut it off of either place.

Any suggestion on how to get it off? I've removed as much as i can by gently pulling it off but its still very sticky. She keeps licking but its not budging!!

I think you may have to call the vet to at least get their advice, I dunno if you can cut cats whiskers, would some clippers get it off?

(the only way I know of to get chewing gum off is to put the item in the freezer, but I don't think thats a good idea for your cat!!! )

Help! There's Gum Stuck in my Hair!

The best way to remove chewing gum that's stuck in hair, without damaging the hair, is to use peanut butter, believe it or not. Either smooth or crunchy will do - just rub well into the gum and it should slide off easily. You can also try vegetable oil, mayonnaise, hand cream or other oily substance to lubricate the gum. Follow with a normal shampoo to remove any oily residue. However, in some cases, particularly if gum has spread extensively through hair, then unfortunately the best solution is to cut it off.

  • I've also used hair conditioner and a comb to get gum out of my hair. I hope that helps :)

  • That sounds strange? Do you think this could have been done deliberately? Cats are extremely clean animals, and wouldnt normally get themselves into that kind of mess/

FYO,I dont think cutting the whiskers is too much of a problem, as long as it isnt all of them, my cat who is very greedy when it comes to his favourite food usually sticks his head in the bowl when I am cutting his food up with scissors, we have had an odd whisker cut from time to time, he just carries on eating. Whiskers do fall out like hair also,so I dont see a problem, but they do need some for spacial awareness.

my cats whiskers fell out after she had chemo and she was fine without them, but then again she was an indoor cat and knew her territory well. (they grew back again after the chemo treatment ceased). so your cat should be OK without a few whiskers :)

    Thanks for the replies.
I gave the veg oil ago and got a couple of scratches for my effort!
I think i'll leave the rest to grow out as she is short haired so there is not much to cut and dont want to risk hurting her.

I was trying to figure out how she got into such and mess and i think she must of trodden in the chewing gum as alot of it is on one paw then tried to bite it off getting it all over the side of her face and then probably lead down and maybe rolled about abit trying to remove the chewing gum, obviously in a pile of poo!! Which may or may not of been hers!

Thanks again for the replies :D
