Family trips during school holidays

Hi - new to posting here so bear with me !

Not been abroad on holiday properly since having children and now starting to look at packages that hopefully don't cost an arm and a leg (defeat the object of the holiday !)!!

Spotted discounts (allegedly) on the https://www.parentscentre.gov.uk site under their new campaign 'every lesson counts' (blackboard logo on left if scroll down a bit on home page).

Would appreciate moneysaver's views on whether these discounts are worth having or just travel companies paying lip service and trying to get some extra custom ??

Love the moneysavingexpert.com website - it's addictive ! Visit most nights, just taken the plunge and switched my gas & electric and now in the process of trawling home contents insurance too - hey, might even afford a holiday soon !

The deals didn't seem too wonderful to me. I am sure you could match these prices trawling through the internet or simply by posting a request here.

I have always had to pay premium prices for holidays as I teach in a school. I am also a single parent on a fairly tight budget. I have just moved jobs to a school that has unusual holidays. I compared the same holiday (a sc break in Majorca). The price for the start of July flying from Glasgow -in Scottish school holidays - came up at £886 for the two of us. Flying in late May (not a usual week off, but one I now have) cost £335. this is additionally cheaper as I can't get a single parent deal in May. This is a whopping £551 difference and over 60% less.
