You rather flatter them with the word 'thieves' do you not?

What have they stolen from you? You're bright enough not to fall for any scam, right?

So clearly your warning is aimed solely at muppets. Is that a fair assessment?

If they've attempted to scam the OP, then he's quite justified to warn other people about their activities.

It is a scam and they're thieves. My host has nothing to do with this group whatsoever, their letter is sent out in a semi official manner, demanding monies, with only a side remark that 'you may wish us to register your domain'

as for how they got the address, this is a clear abuse of the Whois database, as a previously registered company of mine is in the title. And there dared not do the .co.uk web address as that would be in breach of data protection.

maninthestreet, you are quite right, I was just being playful.

Mr Snowbits is a good honest poster who is right to warn people of scams such as this. But he is fond of using the word 'muppet' to describe people less intelligent than he, so I used the opportunity to make a mild teasing joke.

He didn't get it either, perhaps I will have to try harder. Or less hard. Hmm.

As not to upset Pulyptears, who has her phone text her when I use the said term, I try to use only when describing food, such as quick serve microwave type, hence, and here we go! Oh and Pizza!

    MUPPET FOOD.

They don't hack into any systems at all. They get your name and address from the WHOIS register and send you a letter which reads as though you have to renew your domain through them. A search on Google will find lots of threads about this Scam company

    From their own website
    http://www.domainrenewalgroup.com/whois.asp

It says it is for personal use, not for marketing purposes, therefore imo they are scammers and I have quite rightly placed a thread here so we are aware of this.
