My daughter has her setting at private and there is no picture, however, there is just one other person with the same quite unusual name. Unfortunately this person is a similar age to my daughter and she has a very inappropriate picture.
My daughter is just finishing uni and looking for jobs. We are both worried that anyone running her name through these sites will get mixed up but there isn't much she can do is there?Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
On bebo if your profile is set to private they cant view it! have heard of employers doing this though!
Mine has done this to several staff due to complaints made about some of the comments on the profiles being construed as "bullying" towards other members of staff.
My employer being a police force may have something to do with it though!0 -
Pretty standard these days and has been for some time. My name on Facebook is not even my name but my nickname0

I know if you work in the Police you are not allowed to have any inappropriate pictures on facebook, whether private or not.
I've been aware of the facebooking potential employess for a while. Even though my profile is private I have deleted my drunken uni photos! I've even got a nice picture of me at my sister's wedding as my profile pic as anyone can still see that.0 -
YOUR profile may be private, but also need to cnsider any info/pics your online friends have of you, on their a/cs too!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
OK, if you have pictures of yourself snorting coke from a prostitutes back on Facebook, you may have something to worry about! I cant see many employers discounting you for having a few 'drunken photos', and that's if they could get access to them.0

I guess one could always have a go at turning the situation round;)

If you are applying for jobs currently because of being unemployed - have two Facebook profiles/identities (wouldnt know the specifics of this - as I'm not on Facebook). One persona being you and the other one being a "mock-up" - and apply for jobs you dont want under the "mock-up" name and if the employer looks you up on Facebook they come across a person they dont want to employ at all from the details given (result - you dont get offered a job you dont want to have anyway).
Not sure if this could be done without the DWP consequently finding about your "mock-up identity" and some problems being created.
It might be a possible 21st century way of avoiding being offered an unwanted job? (ie one that doesnt pay enough if you do the type of occupation that barely pays enough to live on - so you have to choose very carefully between the jobs available in that occupation, to avoid the ones at the lower range of salaries for that type of job). I know all about being in a type of occupation thats so low-paid that even £2,000 pa one way or the other makes a difference as to whether one can manage on it or no.0 -
The Govt now wants to set up a database to monitor facebook.
