Facebook etc warning when applying for a job

In conversation today with a colleague - he mentioned - he runs every applicants name through bebo, facebook etc search and finds out a lot more than is shown on any application form.

Privacy is no more!

    he won't learn much from facebook as he needs to request your permission to view your profile so don't see how that helps him at all?

    Don't know about bebo, never joined it.

    but you cant view a persons profile unless they accept you as a friend so how does he propose to get any info?

    thats only the case if the person has set there profile to that..

    My current facebook picture is me holding an AK47 after a wekend away in Poland, and visiting a shooting range while I was there.... Wonder what a would-be employer would make of that??? :D

    Good job Im not expecting to look for a job anytime soon! ;)

    On bebo if your profile is set to private they cant view it! have heard of employers doing this though!

    agreed, if you are silly enough to not have ur bebo/fb profile as private then you deserve the consequences ! Joking !(kinda!) when i applied for a job i changed my pic to a pic of some scenery as am not 100% sure if your profile pic is visible, even if your profile is private

    i've unticked everything, not that there is anything i wouldn't want a potential employer to see anyway!
