Elsewhere - great picture! most of them are red aren't they? and that's very encouraging to know it copes well with the kind of paths we would be using but I think you MIL looks half the size of my OH so I'm still a bit unsure.
Unfortunately I don't think we can stretch to most of the ones you guys have suggested unless we pick one up second hand or wait a while until we can afford it.
The £400 one from ebay would have been our absolute top limit and that was stretching it in view of the fact its a new one and would have a warranty.
I wonder how good the puncture prevention system is ? ( £25 extra )
Although now we've got used to the idea and the sun is out I want to get out there again!
You've all been very helpful - thankyou!0 -
Have you tried a "wanted" ad on your local Freecycle? We get "wanted" ads for them on ours occasionally though I don't know if they have any luck! However, people give away the most amazing things sometimes. You might need to buy a new battery for a second hand buggy but that's a lot cheaper option than a whole scooter.0

Thanks for all your input.
We found an excellent Pride Revo which was ideal (2nd hand) but it would not go in the car without taking it apart and the componants were too heavy to take apart each time.
(Bearing in mind that it would be me doing it all when he is in plaster after the ops)
So we went for the one I saw on e-bay.
We went to Coventry to try it and they assured me that the puncture protection kit would do the trick.
He looks too big for it but it does come apart easily and it has a little bit more oomph than your standard 4mph scooter.
I think it is the best we could do given our circumstances.
Buying an even bigger WAV is really not an option!0 -
Glad you have got sorted lin, if you do hve any problems post on here, you never know one of us might be able to help.
I don't know where abouts you are but if there is anything you need help with an idea of geographical location would be helpful since if you were close enough to me for example I would have been quite willing to take you into the Cash & carry I have access to and they have some disability aids available at very reasonable prices as I intimated above.0 -
Thanks for the offer rebel.
We are from Northants and I don't know of any cash and carries round here that sell scooters.
I will let you all know what we think to the one we have bought after we have tried it out properly.
My grown up children and DIL were all trying it out up and down our street today - they were having great fun.
We think we might buy one each and terrorise the neighbourhood!0 -
Bear in mind the insurance aspects when you are buying your scooter.
OH has a small scooter, max 4 mph, so legally it cannot be used on roads (except for necessary crossing). Bigger scooters have to have valid insurance to be used on roads.
Because it didn't concern us I don't know all the details about compulsory insurance, but you should check this before buying.0
